If you’ve not tried Black Cow, you should give it a bash anyway, it’s a stunning smooth vodka, the smoothest we’ve ever tasted, and we’ve tasted more than most.

It’s the world’s first Pure Milk Vodka –  made entirely from milk sourced from grass-fed cows that surround the distillery in West Dorset. To be specific, it’s made from whey – alongside curds, whey is what is left over from milk when you make cheese, and while some farmers discard it or feed it to the pigs, at Black Cow they convert this whey into vodka.

When sipped alongside grainier vodkas made from potato, wheat, rye or other less fluid fermentables, it delivers an exceptionally smooth and creamy character. Amongst our favourite serves is a dirty martini, or simply neat and chilled with cheddar Cheese. Distiller Jason Barbour is also a descendent of the oldest cheddar making famiy in the world, so it stands to reason the pairing is perfect –  head here to buy the cheese.

COCKTAILS

Here are some Black Cow cocktails to try

The Dirty Cow

Ingredients
Black Cow, 50ml
Dry vermouth
Olive brine, 5ml
One large olive, to garnish

Method

Pour the Black Cow, splash of dry vermouth and olive brine into a cocktail shaker with a handful of ice and shake well.

Strain the contents of the cocktail shaker into a chilled glass and add the olive.

The Bloody Cow

The iconic brunch cocktail, this Bloody Cow is an udderly delicious bovine twist on the Bloody Mary.

Black Cow lends a dairy element to the Bloody Mary which enhances the flavour of the tomato while mellowing the tomato acids. Think of parmesan on a bolognese or cream of tomato soup – classic dairy and tomato combinations!

This vodka helps to unlock the flavours in the tomato. That’s why it tastes so good.
