Larceny is rooted in the history of John E. Fitzgerald. John E. Fitzgerald’s weakness was fine bourbon. As a treasury agent, who at the time was the only person legally allowed to carry keys to the rickhouses, he gave in to temptation and committed larceny by freely taking from the best barrels in each rickhouse.
When it came time to empty the barrels, some were found to be unusually light but also exceptionally smooth, so it seems John had exceptional taste. These eventually became known around the distillery as “Fitzgerald barrels.” Now, Larceny honors the superb taste of this lawless treasury agent and the legacy of the Old Fitzgerald brand.
Larceny is a Wheated Bourbon which is Bourbon made with winter wheat instead of the traditional rye as a secondary ingredient. So here we have a mashbill of 68% corn, 20% wheat and 12% malted barley, giving it notes of buttery caramel and honey, with a long, savoury yet gently sweet finish. This meas there’s a quarter more wheat in here than other Wheated Bourbons for a softer, smoother taste.
Created as a small batch, Larceny is made from 200 barrels or less. This allows the Master Distillers to choose only those barrels that have that have reached peak maturity and achieved the ideal taste profile of a six-year-old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.
