Cocchi Extra Dry is a classic-style, Italian vermouth from Piedmont and was created to mark the 130th anniversary of Giulio Cocchi.
It’s based on a “Piedmontese Recipe” so has a solid link with the region. The base wine is from the Cortese grape, producing a wine with plenty of acidity. In terms of botanicals the Artemisia Absinthium is all harvested in the Piedmontese Alps, meanwhile the fresh aromas are courtesy of the Menta di Pancalieri – a local variety of peppermint – and locals lemons.
By flavoring the wine produced with local Cortese grapes and the infusion of botanicals such as absinthe, angelica, coriander and cardamom, as well as with lemon zest and Piedmontese mint, the result is a fragrant and perfectly balanced flavor.
Extra drys are a neccessry addition to the drinks cabinets for cocktails, not least a dry martini or Manhattan but Cocchi’s creation enjoys some stand alone love. Sip it neat and you’ll enjoy aromas of fresh apple, melon and white flowers along with those more herbaceous notes. It’s also useful in a highball, served long with elderflower tonic, soda water or sipped over ice.
