Cocchi Americano is an aromatized wine, conceived by Giulio Cocchi in 1891. It fits into the ‘Americano’ family of aperitivo, the custom of drinking vermouth with ice and soda spread from the United States, and theĀ Americano Rosso is a mix of something like Campari, a classic red Italian bitter liqueur, but softened by sweet vermouth.
The label bears the original futurist cockerel designed in the 1930s, which represents both its function as an aperitif (āit wakes up the appetiteā) and one of the symbols of the city of Asti.
During its history, Cocchi has produced variations of its Aperitivo Americano and this, the most recent, Cocchi Rosa is produced from a base of red wines from Piedmont with added herbs and spices, specifically, gentian, cinchona, citrus peel and rose petals, which are in theĀ Americano Bianco, but with the addition of ginger, vanilla and rose petals.
